Role Summary
The Asphalt Project Estimator plays a crucial role in the preparation and evaluation of asphalt paving and roadway construction estimates. This position ensures adherence to departmental standards while guaranteeing the precision and thoroughness of all estimate packages.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze plans, specifications, and project-related documents to create competitive and comprehensive estimate packages.
- Engage with subcontractors and suppliers to gather necessary estimates for package preparation.
- Compile reports and analyses related to estimating as required by management.
- Review labor, equipment, and material costs to prepare accurate estimates.
- Generate detailed final contract estimates for asphalt paving and site development projects.
- Evaluate project risks and construction exposures, reflecting these in the estimates.
- Identify potential construction challenges during the estimating process.
- Propose value-engineering alternatives to enhance project efficiency.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in estimating asphalt paving and roadway construction projects. A degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is required. Experience with estimating software, particularly HCSS or similar, is essential.
Skills and Attributes
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong understanding of asphalt laydown and roadway construction operations.
- Ability to interpret blueprints and technical specifications.
- Meticulous attention to detail, especially in data interpretation and spreadsheet preparation.
Work Environment
This position primarily operates in an office setting, with occasional visits to construction sites. The role may involve exposure to varying noise levels and environmental conditions, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment when required.
