Job Summary
The Pathologist Assistant plays a crucial role in the Histology Laboratory, working closely with the Director and Pathologists to ensure the smooth operation of the Autopsy and Morgue services. This position requires a high level of expertise, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides technical support and guidance to pathology residents, medical students, and other staff members in the Autopsy and Morgue services.
- Assists in the collection and preparation of tissue samples for special procedures, such as Flow Cytometry and molecular biology.
- Develops and implements procedures and protocols to ensure compliance with JCAHO standards and regulations.
- Coordinates photography services and provides technical direction in Autopsy techniques and procedures.
- Ensures that employees respect the rights, privacy, and property of others, adhering to Administrative Policies and applicable laws and regulations.
- Conducts special projects to evaluate instrumentation, methodology, or to solve technical problems as needed.
- Stays up-to-date with the latest technologies and advancements in the field through literature review, professional meetings, and continuing education courses.
Requirements
- Master's degree in a related field is required.
- 3-5 years of related experience is generally required.
- Valid license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty.
Working Conditions
This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent situations. Frequent interaction with a diverse population, including team members, providers, patients, and other members of the public. The job is subject to inside environmental conditions, with occasional outdoor exposures. Exposure to various environments, including communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a hospital and medical office environment.
