About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Geologist to join our team at the Walbec Group. As an Exploration Geologist, you will play a critical role in identifying and securing aggregate resources to support our construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Exploration and Property Evaluation
    • Collaborate with our Land Resources Manager and Manufacturing Area Managers to develop strategic plans for aggregate resource utilization and exploration.
    • Identify and secure undeveloped lands for development of aggregate sources, evaluating factors such as location, geology, market needs, and permitting regulations.
    • Evaluate geology and reserves of potential properties, including new greenfield sources and property opportunities.
    • Negotiate and draft leases and purchase contracts with landowners.
    • Test and evaluate potential aggregate site properties to determine the quantity and quality of materials.
    • Prepare detailed reports and maps detailing estimated reserves and quality.
  • Aggregate Site Utilization
    • Advise Mine Planners on preparation and implementation of Mine Plans and Reclamation Plans that integrate the geology of deposits.
    • Assist Site Managers with testing and exploration of existing aggregate sites.
    • Work with Mine Planners to update remaining reserve estimates at active aggregate sites.
  • Permitting
    • Review local zoning ordinances to determine required zoning and/or permits necessary for extraction.
    • Prepare zoning and permit applications for new conditional use permits.
    • Attend county board, town board, and other governmental meetings.
    • Ensure compliance with any conditions given by local governments.
  • Safety
    • Work with our Safety Manager, Manufacturing Managers, and field personnel to promote safety within the organization.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in geology, geological engineering, or comparable experience.
  • Minimum of 3-5+ years of experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel locally and regionally.
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • AUTO CADD, GIS, or other computer design software experience preferred.
  • Self-directed and motivated.
  • Ability to take initiative and identify organizational needs.
