About the Role

The University of Chicago is seeking a highly skilled Research Assistant - Technical Support to join our team. As a key member of our research team, you will provide technical support for scientific research projects, ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support for research projects, including coordination and preparation of experimental set-ups.
  • Assist in drafting presentations on research findings and collaborate with research support staff and student research assistants.
  • Collect and enter data, assist in data analysis, and prepare reports, manuscripts, and other documents.
  • Perform routine or standardized laboratory duties, collecting data in support of research projects under direct supervision.
  • Comply with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives, and mandates.
  • Perform other related work as needed.
Requirements
  • Vocational training, apprenticeships, or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge and skills developed through less than 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Biological Sciences, or equivalent knowledge.
  • A minimum of 6 months of relevant research experience.
  • Prior experience working with rodents and animal behavior.
  • Prior experience working with electrophysiology in awake, behaving rodents, experience with survival surgery in rodents.
  • Knowledge in relevant scientific field, research techniques or methods, and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Proficiency in Matlab or Python and neurophysiological data acquisition.
Working Conditions
  • Work in a laboratory environment with exposure to laboratory chemicals, laboratory animals (rodents), and vertebrate animal blood, vertebrate animal blood components, and/or products made from the vertebrate animal bones.
  • Ability to sit for up to 2 hours and use computers extensively for 2 hours.
