Position Overview

Salary: $22.50 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Note: This is a Per Diem role for the evening shift.

The Substance Abuse Counselor is tasked with evaluating the psychosocial requirements of clients and their families within a Residential Treatment setting for substance abuse. This role involves implementing interventions to address these needs by collaborating with the treatment team and utilizing available resources.

The incumbent will also engage in crisis intervention, case consultation, and collaborative services with other professionals. As a vital member of the treatment team, the counselor is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of clients while upholding the program's integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments of clients' psychosocial needs.
  • Provide supervision to clients and support to staff as assigned.
  • Facilitate group sessions and lead educational activities.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement treatment plans.
  • Maintain accurate client records and documentation.

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  • Current enrollment in a state-recognized chemical dependency counselor certification program is required.
  • Minimum of six months of experience in substance abuse or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A valid driver's license is essential and must remain valid throughout employment.
  • Familiarity with the 12-step recovery model, substance dependency, and mental health disorders is highly desirable.
  • CPR and First Aid certification must be obtained within the first week of employment.
  • Medication training is required within the first month of employment.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills, including word processing and internet navigation, is required.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential for effective documentation and client interaction.
  • Experience in crisis management and the ability to identify and address behavioral changes are critical.
  • Commitment to advocating for individuals from diverse backgrounds is necessary.
