The Cardiovascular Nurse is responsible for providing care to out-patients in the Ambulatory Surgery Center, ensuring that care is consistent with the objectives of the treatment plan designed for the patient and as directed by the attending physician.
Under the supervision and guidance of physicians, the registered nurse assists in planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating care providing professional care to their clients.
The RN is responsible and accountable for individual, autonomous nursing practice and determines the appropriate delegation of tasks and nursing activities in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act.
Duties and Responsibilities- Perform nursing functions related to pre and post procedural processes
- Admit, discharge, and transfer patients of the ASC per policy
- Provide a safe and supportive environment for the patient
- Respect the patient's right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality, and demand the same of other team members
- Utilize specialized knowledge in the nursing process in assessing the needs of the patient and implementing appropriate nursing interventions
- Recognize legal and policy limits of individual practice
- Monitor the activities of nonprofessional team members
- Receive, document, and implement physicians' orders
- Maintain accurate records of controlled substances
- Be knowledgeable of healthcare costs and monitor the efficient use of equipment and supplies
- Organize and maintain a neat work area
- Assist with housekeeping tasks
- Complete all appropriate documentation
- Attend and participate in staff and departmental meetings
- Be knowledgeable and responsive to emergency situations (cardiac arrest, malignant hyperthermia, drug reactions, internal and external disaster)
- Assess physical and emotional needs of patients and implement appropriate nursing interventions
- Keep work area neat and organized
- Work efficiently and manage time wisely
- Communicate any problems, difficulties, or concerns regarding job duties to the leader
- Perform all duties without significant error occurring with any regularity
- Meet all deadlines and timeframes for completion of assignments
- Represent MCI/CIS ASC in a professional manner at all times
- Exhibit good communication skills with physicians, patients, team leaders, and co-workers at all times
- Exhibit a harmonious relationship with other MCI/CIS ASC employees in order to accomplish the duties and responsibilities of the position
