Job Title: Production Assistant - Truck Driver

The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center is seeking a Production Assistant (Truck Driver) to complete driving routes for pickup and/or drop off of donations at the warehouse, assigned donation boxes, and at donor homes.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the security and safe operation of the vehicle and other assigned equipment. Promptly report any accidents, personal injuries, or property damage to the immediate supervisor and complete all necessary paperwork.
  • Perform daily walk-around inspections of the vehicle, checking air, water, oil, and other items to maintain equipment in good operating condition. Report any problems immediately to the supervisor.
  • Ensure the truck cab and box are clean and personal items are removed daily.
  • Plan daily routing based on pick-ups assigned and make all scheduled calls, including boxes.
  • Develop assigned routes, including bagging or carding on both sides and across the street of each pick-up, as instructed.
  • Represent The Salvation Army professionally, ensuring all customers are treated courteously, donations are accepted or refused appropriately, and the Manual for Production Assistants is strictly followed. Report any problems in pickups to the dispatcher immediately.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records, including delivery manifests, trip logs, Green Sheets, etc. Adhere to communication procedures and 10 codes.
  • Load and unload trucks assigned and others as requested, taking proper care to secure and safely handle goods and materials during loading and unloading. Use blankets, ropes, etc., to avoid excessive movement of material during transit, breakage, scratching, or other damage, and make optimum use of available space.
  • Provide assistance to Thrift Store personnel when delivering items to ensure proper placement and location within the store (i.e., hampers to processing areas, furniture placed properly on sales floors, removal of trash, etc.).
  • Instruct and supervise Truck Helpers, keeping in mind that they are in a rehabilitation program and good habits are taught by example as well as instruction.
  • This position supports the work therapy program component of The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers by providing beneficiaries with an example of professional conduct, work habits, and supervision (as directed by the supervisor).
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or Administrator.
Qualifications:
  • Effective communication skills.
  • A valid driver's license for assigned vehicles and an acceptable DMV record. Pass a driving test.
  • Ability to lift 100 lbs.
  • Ability to read maps and plan and prioritize daily route coverage.
  • Ability to use an iPad with GPS, texting, and truck inspection reports.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Medical card required depending on city and/or state requirements.
  • Pass a DOT Physical, which is a requirement of the job, and failure to do so could result in immediate termination of employment.
