About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Conservatorship Specialist to join our team at the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. As a Conservatorship Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of children and families in our care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive cases from investigators and determine each child's needs, ensuring appropriate referrals for testing, evaluations, and assessments.
  • Work with children, families, and communities to plan for a child's permanency, identifying potential permanency resources and searching for kinship providers.
  • Meet with parents to assess risk and safety issues, referring them to appropriate services to address identified needs.
  • Collaborate with a Placement Team, including Kinship staff, for placements, and participate in meetings and conferences at times and places convenient for family members.
  • Visit children monthly to assess their feeling of safety in their current home, plan for permanency, and discuss their needs, wishes, and progress while in care.
  • Attend and participate in court hearings about the child and family, preparing court reports and testifying in court on the child's needs, the family's progress, and the department's efforts to achieve permanency.
Requirements
  • An accredited Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree plus two years of relevant work experience, or 60 accredited college credit hours plus two years of relevant work experience, or 90 accredited college credit hours plus one year of relevant work experience.
  • Examples of relevant work experience in social, human, or protective services include paid or volunteer work within social service agencies or communities providing services to families or other at-risk populations.
