A Registered Nurse specializing in Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is accountable for delivering comprehensive patient care through a systematic approach involving assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role encompasses the responsibility of prescribing, delegating, coordinating, supervising, and assessing patient education, as well as overseeing the activities of ancillary nursing staff while upholding the standards of professional nursing practice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide both direct and indirect patient care.
- Conduct thorough assessments and develop individualized care plans.
- Monitor patient progress and adjust care plans as necessary.
- Educate patients and families regarding post-operative care and recovery.
- Supervise and mentor nursing support staff.
Qualifications:
A. Education and Skills:
Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing or possess an equivalent qualification.
B. Experience:
A minimum of six months of relevant nursing experience is preferred.
C. Licenses and Certifications:
- Current nursing license to practice in the State of Texas.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within two weeks of hire.
- Medication competency must be achieved within two weeks of hire.
- Computer proficiency is expected within four weeks of hire.
- Completion of an Arrhythmia Recognition Course within twelve weeks if ACLS certification is not current.
- AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is required within sixteen weeks of hire.
- Critical Care training and assessments must be completed within sixteen weeks of hire.
- Phlebotomy and Point of Care Competency training required within four weeks of hire.
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification must be obtained within six months of hire.
- Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required within six months of hire.
