Job Title: Disease Intervention Specialist

Join the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services as a Disease Intervention Specialist and play a critical role in preventing the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in our community.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to conduct surveillance and public health follow-up activities with individuals who have tested positive for or have been exposed to HIV or other STIs. As a Disease Intervention Specialist, you will work closely with the Regional HIV/STD Manager and the HIV/STD Team Leads to identify and track cases, provide education and support to individuals, and collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure timely treatment and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct in-person and phone interviews with individuals infected with or exposed to STIs to gather information and provide education and support.
  • Perform venipuncture in the field to collect blood samples for testing.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, laboratories, and other organizations to ensure timely treatment and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with community partners and stakeholders to promote HIV/STI prevention and education.
  • Enter data into the agency's information management system and maintain accurate records.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as public health, epidemiology, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology related to HIV/STIs and experience working with individuals infected with or exposed to STIs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with minimal supervision.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive throughout a 30-county area.
Working Conditions:

This position requires regular travel throughout a 30-county area, typically during regular business hours, to meet with individuals in their homes, at work, or other community locations. The work also requires exposure to explicit sexual language and images, and strict confidentiality requirements must be maintained at all times.
