We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Technical Documentation Specialist to join our team at O'Neil & Associates, Inc.

About the Role

As a Senior Technical Documentation Specialist, you will play a crucial role in creating and maintaining high-quality technical documents that meet customer requirements.

You will be responsible for leading tasks in documenting and developing detailed operation, maintenance, and/or troubleshooting procedures, checklists, technical specifications, service bulletins, training materials, and other procedures and reports.

This is a challenging opportunity to work with various computer software tools, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to the success of our organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Create technical documents/manuals according to customer specifications, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems on heavy-duty equipment, utilizing your expertise to resolve complex issues.
  • Research existing data to maximize utilization of previously developed text and illustrations, optimizing content reuse and efficiency.
  • Draft text materials to ensure coordination per final product requirements, fostering collaboration with stakeholders and customers.
  • Document and archive technical data efficiently for future projects, maintaining organized records and adhering to company policies.
  • Track and record time spent on projects, providing timely and accurate updates to management.
  • Communicate work status and additional information needs to management, ensuring seamless project execution and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Complete assigned tasks within established deadlines and customer specifications, adhering to company policies and procedures.
  • Follow established safety procedures and report violations, prioritizing employee well-being and workplace safety.
  • Assist in training new employees or those transitioning into the department, sharing knowledge and best practices to enhance team performance.
  • Review project requirements to ensure compliance with customer specifications and agreements, guaranteeing exceptional quality and customer satisfaction.
Requirements:
  • Educational Background: High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required; Associate degree in a technical or mechanical field, or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Work Experience: Two to four (2-4) years of experience writing complex technical documents; previous military and/or mechanical aptitude/experience preferred; experience with the Department of Defense (DoD) and familiarity with diagnostic tools such as Onboard Diagnostics (OBD) II, CAT ET, Allison DOC, Bendix Diagnostic, Dearborn, WABCO Toolbox, or other OEM tools highly desired.
  • Critical Thinking and Data Comparison: Ability to think critically and compare source data files, including engineering drawings, reports, drawing lists, Microsoft documents, Adobe PDFs, etc., to produce technical information used in technical documentation.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Ability to work overtime when required and flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Desirable Skills: Familiarity with Gas and Diesel engines, automotive repair, or any other mechanical knowledge.
