POSITION SUMMARY: The Registered Nurse is tasked with delivering direct nursing care to residents while overseeing the daily nursing activities conducted by nursing assistants. This oversight must comply with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing our facility, as well as directives from the Director of Nursing to ensure the highest quality of care is consistently provided.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise the daily functions of nursing assistants. Collaborate with assigned nursing staff and support personnel to plan services, programs, and activities for the shift. Document and communicate reports and recommendations regarding shift activities as needed. Manage the admission, transfer, and discharge processes for residents. Provide leadership to nursing personnel assigned to your unit or shift.
  • Complete and maintain required documentation upon resident admission, transfer, and discharge. Accurately receive and transcribe physician orders and record them on the Physician's Order Form. Document nursing notes in a clear and descriptive manner that reflects the care provided and the resident's response. Prepare and submit accident/incident reports to the Director as required. Perform routine charting duties in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Administer medications as prescribed by physicians.
  • Foster and maintain effective working relationships with inter-departmental personnel and other departments within the facility to ensure that nursing services and activities meet resident needs. Create and sustain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive engagement, while ensuring a calm environment throughout the unit and shift. Exchange nursing reports at the beginning and end of shifts. Accompany physicians on rounds as necessary.
  • Provide professional services such as catheterization, tube feeding, suctioning, dressing changes, and other medical procedures as required.
  • Monitor nursing staff to ensure compliance with established safety regulations regarding equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information, including protected health information. Report any known or suspected breaches of confidentiality. Ensure that all nursing care is delivered in privacy and that nursing staff knock before entering resident rooms.
  • Provide IV care and management as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: To successfully perform this role, an individual must be able to fulfill each essential duty satisfactorily. The following requirements represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

  • Registered Nurse with a current, unencumbered state license.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the English language.
  • Able to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
  • Knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines applicable to nursing care facilities.
  • Current CPR Certification is mandatory.
  • Experience in Long Term Care is preferred.

  • Must be capable of pushing, pulling, moving, and/or lifting a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of at least 5 feet and able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
  • May be required to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
