POSITION OVERVIEW

The Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Engineer plays a pivotal role within the Maintenance team, reporting directly to the Maintenance Superintendent. This position is dedicated to enhancing maintenance processes, ensuring equipment reliability, maintaining mechanical integrity, and supporting quality initiatives while managing costs effectively. The E&I Engineer will collaborate with various stakeholders across the organization to fulfill their responsibilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee all aspects of instrumentation and electrical systems, including analyzers and the hardware associated with Distributed Control Systems and Programmable Logic Controllers.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of all E&I systems and components.
  • Compile and organize all pertinent vendor documentation related to E&I systems.
  • Create training programs for E&I maintenance technicians.
  • Identify necessary spare parts, tools, and facilities, and establish procedures for inspection, repair, and refurbishment.
  • Consult on the formulation of third-party maintenance service agreements.
  • Conduct root cause failure analyses (RCFA) for E&I system failures and propose corrective actions.
  • Provide guidance to on-site electricians and instrument technicians regarding repairs and enhancements of E&I systems.
  • Maintain ownership of all E&I specifications and standards.
  • Ensure adherence to specifications and standards during plant modifications and improvement projects.
  • Assess the effectiveness of inspection and testing programs to guarantee the integrity and functionality of E&I systems.
  • Keep all relevant maintenance procedures, vendor information, and standards current, adapting to technological advancements and lessons learned.
  • Propose a risk-based inspection program.
  • Monitor critical equipment and contribute to the development of preventive maintenance strategies.
  • Collect and analyze data related to E&I system failures and their frequencies.
  • Engage in technical advisory roles during maintenance turnarounds and minor projects.
  • Review and endorse specifications for new equipment and develop specifications for newly introduced E&I components.
  • Participate in safety reviews and assist in the commissioning of plant modifications.
  • Promote a culture of safety by adhering to all company safety protocols and standards.
  • Actively engage in safety management practices, including Job Risk Analyses (JRA) and Process Hazard Analyses (PHA).
  • Contribute to plant safety initiatives and reporting mechanisms.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in E&I engineering within an industrial environment.
  • At least 3 years of experience in troubleshooting process instrumentation.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
