As a Senior Staff OpenStack Engineer within our Hardware Engineering division, you will take charge of the design, development, deployment, and management of cutting-edge private cloud systems.
This position calls for a professional who can innovate, propose, and deliver comprehensive technology solutions, drawing on extensive expertise in hardware automation, server management, and large-scale system architecture.
Your role will be crucial in transforming strategic objectives into operational successes, significantly impacting the organization's advancement in the private cloud sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, implement, and manage scalable and resilient private cloud environments utilizing OpenStack and MaaS.
- Develop automation workflows for provisioning, configuring, and overseeing bare metal servers in extensive settings.
- Perform thorough performance evaluations and optimizations of Metal and Cloud environments, prioritizing efficiency, reliability, and integration with private cloud strategies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and enhance tools that automate and simplify infrastructure deployment and operations.
- Produce high-quality, well-documented code, adhering to OpenSource community development standards.
- Contribute to the strategy and execution of data protection, disaster recovery, and security measures across all private cloud infrastructures.
- Drive ongoing enhancements by keeping abreast of emerging technologies and industry best practices, ensuring the security, stability, and scalability of system architecture.
- Ensure the quality, usability, and performance of the solutions.
- Provide leadership across multiple areas to engineering teams.
- Utilize programming languages such as Python, C#, or other object-oriented languages, along with SQL and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and various Azure tools and services.
- Share best practices consistently and improve processes within and across teams.
- Mentor junior engineers, offering guidance and insights related to cloud infrastructure and best practices in system management.
Qualifications
- Expertise in OpenStack components and services.
- Experience with KVM and Metal as a Service platforms.
- Proven ability to design and implement complex IT solutions on a large scale.
- Strong scripting and automation skills using Python and Go.
- Familiarity with infrastructure as code (IAC) methodologies, particularly Terraform.
- Proficient in using Ansible for configuration management and deployment.
- In-depth knowledge of Linux/Unix systems, including system administration and scripting.
- Solid understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and security (TCP/IP, HTTP, load balancing, etc.).
- Experience with Operating Systems design, deployment, and debugging, especially in Linux and Windows environments.
- Hands-on experience with configuring and integrating cloud storage technologies such as fiber channel storage, SAN, and Software Defined Storage like Ceph and MINIO.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills, with a history of overcoming technical challenges.
- Effective communication abilities, capable of fostering strong relationships with team members, stakeholders, and external partners.
Required Experience
- 6+ years in a similar role, focusing on OpenStack cloud environments and hardware automation.
- 6+ years of demonstrated experience in designing, deploying, and managing large-scale private clouds.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in systems/server management with technologies like Redfish, BMC, and IPMI standards.
- 5+ years of experience integrating and configuring cloud storage solutions such as direct attached storage, Storage Area Network (SAN), JBOD/JBOD.
- 5+ years of experience with security protocols and products, including understanding of Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, and OAuth.
- 4+ years of experience in a collaborative development environment, utilizing modern software development methodologies.
- 4+ years of scripting/coding experience in one of the following languages: C/C++ development, Bash, Python, or Go.
- 4+ years of experience in developing and maintaining large-scale, high-availability systems.
- 4+ years of solid history of engaging with OpenSource communities, contributing to projects, forums, or discussions.
Desired Experience
- 10+ years of professional software development experience.
- 8+ years of experience with systems architecture and design.
- 6+ years of experience in open-source frameworks.
- 4+ years of experience working with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service.
- 3+ years of technical leadership experience.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience.
Annual Salary
$110, $261. The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary offered to the selected candidate.
