Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior SSD Hardware Design Engineer to join our team at Western Digital. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing world-class solid state flash drives (SSD).

About the Role:

The primary responsibility of this engineer is hardware electronic design for all SSD products. We seek a hardware design engineer who has solid analog/digital circuit design knowledge, a creative mind and is motivated to deliver high quality hardware solution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design for Innovation:
    • Translate product and system requirements into high performance circuit designs for power systems, PCIe host interface, ASIC controllers, NAND, DDR and more, pushing the boundaries of SSD technology.
    • Work closely with layout and SIPI teams to perfect design implementation and provide layout guidelines for optimal results.
  • Collaborate Across Teams:
    • Partner with internal cross functional experts and external vendors to deliver innovative hardware solutions.
    • Represent the hardware team in program meetings and drive hardware deliverable to meet time-to-market schedule.
  • Simulate and Validate:
    • Use SPICE simulations and hands-on bench evaluations to ensure designs meet and exceed performance expectations.
    • Perform component testing, qualify new parts with the quality engineering team, and develop detailed schematics using Cadence OrCAD.
    • Oversee functional checkout of new hardware and collaborate with validation, ASIC, firmware, and system engineering teams to resolve any hardware issues.
  • Drive Manufacturing Readiness:
    • Manage BOMs in Agile to support seamless material sourcing and manufacturing operations


Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) or a related field, with 2-3 years of experience in hardware design engineering or related fields. Additionally, they should possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills, ability to work both independently and in large, cross-functional team settings.

  • An estimated salary of $95,000 - $115,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
