Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Nursing Attendant to join our Med Surg Float team at NYU Langone Health. As a Nursing Attendant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our nursing staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in implementing the nursing process by performing direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of the Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly patient care environment and unit.
  • Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients, including orienting patients to the hospital environment and providing toileting supplies.
  • Conduct patient rounds for toileting, positioning, comfort, safety, and personal needs.
  • Provide basic hygiene to patients, including bathing, AM/PM care, mouth care, denture care, hair care, nail and foot care, and shaving.
  • Prepare patients for meals, including clearing overbed tables and positioning patients correctly for eating or tube feedings.
  • Perform and/or assist patients with simple treatments, such as removing and reapplying SCD wraps and assisting with enema procedures.
  • Collect specimens as directed by the RN.
  • Inform the RN of any audible clinical alarms, such as IV pumps, feeding pumps, ventilators, and bedside monitors.
  • Assist with moving, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients.
  • Assist with removal and security of patient personal items prior to procedures, as needed.
  • Change linen in accordance with policy and as necessary.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of Certified Nursing Attendant program or minimum 6 months relevant experience.
  • BLS or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification required upon entry to the position.
  • Working knowledge of English evident in verbal, reading, and writing abilities; other language an asset.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
