Nurse Manager Job Description

At Center for Health Care Services, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nurse Manager to join our team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing the nursing functions of our Crisis Services, Substance Abuse, Behavioral Health, and Primary Care departments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate the delivery of overall nursing care to patients in inpatient and outpatient behavioral health settings.
  • Assist in processing bi-weekly nursing payroll and ensure accurate and timely payment.
  • Collaborate with nursing, clinical, and provider staff to resolve emergent patient or nursing issues in a timely manner.
  • Conduct annual evaluations for nursing staff and attend required meetings for department or position.
  • Develop and implement staffing plans for shifts based on patient acuity, patient census, and available staff.
  • Ensure appropriate orientation of new employees and provide continuous training and development of clinical staff to meet the changing needs of organizational demands.
  • Oversee the staffing and management of patient care in respective units on a 24-hour basis.
  • Participate in all programs, licensure, and other external audits and in the preparation of Corrective Action Plans (CAPs).
  • Participate in recruitment, selection, and hiring process for nursing positions and provide employee mentoring, coaching, and discipline.
  • Promote highest quality standards of patient care by appropriately managing patient flow.
  • Promote staff educational opportunities and coordinate training when applicable.
  • Provide managerial support along with the Director of Nursing by supervising and evaluating all nursing personnel on the unit.
  • Provide patient care based on the needs of the unit, including substituting for an RN/LVN as needed, utilizing appropriate uniform and PPE.
  • Provide support and training to staff, encouraging their abilities to effectively provide service and patient care.
  • Provide timely follow-up and communication to employees.
  • Provide total supervision in the absence of the Director of Nursing.
  • Serve as a resource to staff for solving problems.
  • Work collaboratively with Behavioral Health and Primary Care staff to support operations and train the clinic nursing team to ensure efficient flow of patients visiting the clinic.
  • Work cooperatively with administrators, physicians, staff, managers, and all customers of CHCS to provide services that consistently meet or exceed customer expectations.
Requirements:
  • Two to four years of RN experience demonstrating successful nursing leadership.
  • RN with a current valid license to practice as issued by the State Board of Nursing.
  • BSN Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Associates Degree in Nursing with at least 4 years of related work experience.
  • Current Registered Nurse License to practice in the State of Texas.
  • Behavioral Competencies: Self-motivated, energetic, self-starter; can work independently with limited direction.
  • Evidence of continued professional development (i.e., additional education, training, certifications, courses, conferences attended, and webinars).
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements to complete SAMA and CPR training, including lifting up to 12 lbs. and supporting up to 55 lbs.; bending, stooping, and getting on and off the floor without assistance.
  • Must have adequate mobility that requires frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching (vertical and horizontal), and using fingers, hands, feet, legs, and torso in various care.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • MSN Masters of Science in Nursing or higher earned degree.
  • PHM-BC- Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification (PMH-BC).
  • CNML - The Certified Nurse Manager and Leader (CNML).
  • Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP).
