Driver Requirements

  • You're 25 years or older
  • You have a driver's license
  • You have a California license plate
  • You consent to driver screening and background check
  • You have an iPhone or Android smartphone

Vehicle Requirements

  • The vehicle must be 2008 or newer (may vary in some regions)
  • 4 doors
  • 5-8 seats, including the driver's seat
  • California license plate

If you don't have a car, consider renting one through our Express Drive program, which includes standard insurance, available in select cities.

Document Requirements

  • California vehicle insurance
  • Driver profile photo
  • Proof of vehicle inspection performed by a C-BAR certified mechanic (we'll show you options in the Lyft app when you apply)

Estimated Salary: Based on industry standards, you can earn around $20-$25 per hour, depending on your location and the number of rides you complete. With Upfront Pay, you can also view the fare for a ride before accepting it, giving you more control over your earnings. Plus, you keep 100% of your tips.
