Job Title: Campus Health Coordinator/Nurse

Northwest Independent School District (TX) is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Campus Health Coordinator/Nurse to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Campus Health Coordinator/Nurse will be responsible for implementing a comprehensive program of health services for the campus, providing health services to students, and promoting health education and preventive health practices.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct care to students utilizing professional assessment skills, the nursing process, and established school health protocols.
  • Serve as a health advocate for students and notify parents of accidents or illnesses.
  • Coordinate the management system to administer medications to students at school and establish effective procedures for mandatory screening programs.
  • Develop and coordinate continuing evaluation of the campus health program and make changes based on findings.
  • Provide physical assistance to students as required and administer medication to students according to district policy.
  • Participate in the development of campus health education curriculum and provide health education to individuals and groups.
  • Educate faculty and staff on health-related topics and provide health counseling and instruction to individual students.
  • Serve as a health liaison between the school, physicians, parents, and community and assess student problems and make appropriate referrals.
  • Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee, crisis team, and school committees and develop Individual Health Plans.
  • Collaborate with other professionals regarding the implementation of health-related Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse.
  • Communicate regularly with the principal, health services coordinator, school counselor, teachers, parents, food services, and other staff regarding health services issues.
Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program.
  • Valid registered nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • Certified by the Texas Department of Health to conduct vision and hearing screening.
  • Certification for CPR and in vision, hearing, and scoliosis screening.
  • Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defects.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to implement policies and procedures.
  • Five years of nursing experience.
  • Preferably, three years of experience in school nursing.
Working Conditions:

The Campus Health Coordinator/Nurse will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and will be required to maintain emotional control under stress. The position will involve repetitive hand motions and prolonged use of a computer, as well as exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases. The ability to lift 30 pounds is also required.

Supervisory Duties:

The Campus Health Coordinator/Nurse will direct the work of licensed vocational nurses (LVNs) and any assigned health clinic aides.

Equipment Used:

The position will require the use of a thermometer, blood pressure cuff, audiometer, otoscope, sphygmomanometer, vision screening equipment, thermoscan, basic clinic equipment, equipment used with medically fragile students, personal computer, and copier.
