Job Description

The primary objective of the CNC Machine Operator Trainee is to function as a valuable member of the Point Eight Power Fabrication team by assisting and learning all activities concerned with producing parts by operating a CNC machine.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the effort of being a best-in-class manufacturer by:
    • Assisting the CNC machine operator in creating all the parts required by the parts list, as dictated by the program list.
    • Assisting in the repair and maintenance of the machines, as required.
    • Organizing completed parts for the next phase of manufacturing.
    • Completing works in process tickets to assure accurate inventory counts.
    • Performing necessary side operations during machine cycle time, such as pulling metal for the next program, maintaining and sharpening tools, and replacing tools as necessary.
    • Maintaining a safe, clean, well-organized work area.
    • Developing competencies to become a 3rd class CNC machine operator.
Required Skills
  • Intrapersonal Skills: Self-motivated and able to identify, examine, and resolve issues independently from others.
  • Hold a strong regard for guidelines, procedures, and integrity.
  • Production and Processing: Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Design: Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Tools include: Allen wrenches, grinders, break press, punch press, forklift, crane, shears, and calipers.
  • Technical Experience: Excellent mechanical skills and aptitude in supporting CNC sheet metal equipment, ability to visualize 3D parts from cut sheets. Good math skills and qualified in basic computer skills.
  • Computers and Electronics: Knowledge of computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
  • Manual Dexterity: The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Verbal & Written Communication Skills: This position requires basic skills (ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.)
  • Math Skills: This position requires intermediate skills (calculate figures/discounts, proportions, area, etc.).
Required Experience
  • Less than 1 year of sheet metal fabrication experience, required.
  • Less than 1 year of CNC operator experience, preferred.
