The Chemical Analyst at the Lake Charles Facility plays a crucial role in overseeing the daily functions of the laboratory to ensure efficiency and consistency. This position is responsible for conducting specialized testing, evaluating product compliance with specifications, and offering support to clients regarding testing methodologies and result interpretations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a technical expert for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of laboratory equipment.
  • Oversee the inventory management of spare parts for laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Facilitate the setup of laboratory instruments and coordinate data transfers with existing data acquisition systems.
  • Establish and uphold a comprehensive maintenance program for laboratory instrumentation.
  • Act as the primary contact for laboratory support systems, addressing issues and repairs.
  • Conduct necessary quality control measures to ensure instruments are calibrated and functioning according to established guidelines.
  • Document and report on calibration statuses and maintenance activities.
  • Coordinate the development and execution of quality control protocols to monitor laboratory operations.
  • Ensure that testing protocols are current and effective.
  • Provide technical guidance to quality assurance technicians.
  • Address customer technical inquiries, including sample requests and troubleshooting assistance.
  • Collaborate with the Laboratory Leadership Team, Operations Supervisors, Engineers, and Unit Operators.
  • Offer technical support for project initiatives and operational challenges related to chemistry and instrumental analysis.
  • Work closely with site operations and optimization teams to ensure timely and accurate data availability.
  • Act as a liaison for various areas within the plant and participate in area meetings.
  • Manage the Laboratory Information Management System, including troubleshooting as needed.
  • Develop and refine analytical procedures to enhance the laboratory's ability to deliver precise and accurate analyses supporting refinery objectives.
  • Perform quality assurance tasks in line with the Laboratory Quality Assurance Program to ensure reliable results for laboratory clients.
  • Promote safety and health standards for oneself and colleagues, ensuring quality work is conducted in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
  • Adhere to company policies, standards, and governmental regulations.
  • Step in as a temporary supervisor when required and assist in training laboratory technicians.
Required Qualifications:
  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country.
  • Associate of Applied Science in Chemical Laboratory Technology or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in refining or chemical laboratory settings.
  • Willingness to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).
  • Ability to comply with the following requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation:
    • Travel up to 5% of the time.
    • Occasional on-call responsibilities.
    • Work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
    • Lift and transport items weighing up to 50 pounds.
    • Work safely near large, high-speed machinery.
    • Climb ladders and stairs up to 50 feet high.
    • Handle chemicals, including acids and bases.
    • Work with hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat.
    • Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
    • Wear personal protective equipment, including fire-retardant clothing and steel-toe shoes.
    • Maintain a clean-shaven face for proper respirator fit.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or equivalent.
  • Advanced proficiency in Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with computer-based instrumentation.
  • Ability to develop and communicate clear strategies.
