Position Overview:
The Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Eastern Connecticut State University is a pivotal role that reports directly to the President. The CIO is responsible for providing strategic leadership, vision, and oversight for all facets of information technology. This includes managing academic and administrative computing, overseeing the Center for Instructional Technology, Media Services, Help Desk, enterprise applications, telecommunications, and ensuring data security and user support services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise the directors of Information Technology, Media Services, Systems/Networking, and Enterprise Applications.
- Collaborate with the Provost and Vice Presidents to promote the integration of technology in university operations, identifying areas for innovation and efficiency.
- Lead initiatives that align with the University's Strategic Plan, advocating for the effective use of technology in both instructional and institutional support.
- Manage budgetary responsibilities, including expense monitoring and strategic planning related to information technology.
- Oversee centralized IT operations to ensure that technology applications meet the needs of both academic and administrative sectors.
- Guide the University’s technology investments, including grant preparation and long-term resource planning.
- Ensure oversight of academic and administrative computing, media services, telecommunications, and user support.
- Engage with faculty to explore opportunities for curriculum enhancement through technology.
- Evaluate and propose innovative technology applications to improve university operations.
- Recommend policies and procedures to stay ahead of technological advancements and future needs.
- Conduct data security assessments to safeguard the IT infrastructure.
- Provide leadership in training and support for all ITS-related activities across the University.
- Play a significant role in the recruitment, training, and evaluation of ITS personnel, focusing on career development.
- Act as a liaison with the CSU System Office and other campuses, facilitating coordination of technology initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as required that align with the responsibilities of the position.
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in a relevant information technology field is essential, with a master's degree preferred. Candidates should possess a minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in IT management, ideally within a higher education context. A comprehensive understanding of IT hardware, software, and infrastructure is required, with a focus on network security and reliability. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), customer relationship management (CRM) systems, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is crucial.
Successful candidates will demonstrate strong collaborative skills, a commitment to quality service, and an understanding of diverse student populations. Experience in developing external support sources and implementing projects aligned with the University’s Strategic Plan is also important. Some qualifications may be waived for individuals with relevant alternative experience.
