Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our Pretesting Department as a Pretesting LPN - Patient Care Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for performing preliminary physical testing, collecting patient information, and providing patient education to ensure a smooth and efficient pretesting process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Data Collection: Obtain and record patient information and vital signs in our electronic health record system, including height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respirations, and report any abnormalities as necessary.
  • Lab Testing: Perform EKG testing according to anesthesia standing orders or physician order, and report any abnormal EKG reports to the Pretesting Review Nurse.
  • Specimen Collection: Draw and collect blood samples, MRSA swab, and/or urine sample from patients according to anesthesia standing orders and/or physician order, and prepare specimens for analysis according to laboratory guidelines.
  • Patient Education: Complete patient preoperative education, including patient preoperative medication instructions, incentive spirometry teaching, chlorhexidine bathing instructions, ICOUGH instructions, patient pain scale, and any additional patient instructions related to the procedure or day of procedure.
  • Workload Management: Anticipate and prevent periods of extreme workload within a shift, utilizing good time management and organizational skills.
  • Documentation: Complete all patient care documentation according to hospital policy, identifying and addressing incomplete documentation.
  • Team Collaboration: Coordinate with other team members and departments to complete the pretesting process in a timely manner.
  • Patient Safety: Provide for patient safety and protection of patient privacy rights.
  • Problem-Solving: Recognize and perform duties which are needed even when not directly assigned, and intervene promptly and courteously to resolve problems and promote customer satisfaction.
  • Work Environment: Maintain a clean and organized work area, keeping items stocked and orderly.
Requirements
  • Nursing Education for Licensed Practical Nurse from an accredited nursing program.
  • Active Licensed Practical Nursing license in Tennessee.
  • 3 years of experience.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support.
