This position involves 12-hour shifts in the Metro Bakersfield area, with additional rural station opportunities available on 24-hour shifts in blocks of 2 shifts (48 hours at a time) in various regions.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • National or State Paramedic License.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean record.
  • Minimum age of 20 years at the start of employment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Respond to medical emergencies within the community. Evaluate illnesses and injuries, administering both basic and advanced emergency care. Provide medical treatment to patients during transport and prepare them for transfer to medical facilities. Support EMTs in applying appropriate EMS techniques. Operate emergency vehicles and equipment effectively to ensure patient care and transport. Maintain accurate patient records and facilitate information transfer to healthcare providers. Deliver compassionate care to patients.

KEY FUNCTIONS:

  • Punctuality and adherence to scheduled shifts to meet company and EMS standards.
  • Administer first-aid and life-support care to individuals in pre-hospital settings.
  • Assess the nature and severity of illnesses or injuries to prioritize treatment procedures. Collaborate with paramedics and nurses in managing emergency patients according to established protocols.
  • Perform emergency diagnostic and treatment procedures as outlined in the State EMS Scope of Practice, including splinting, medication administration, and airway management.
  • Utilize equipment such as EKGs and defibrillators in advanced life-support scenarios.
  • Document and report patient conditions, treatments, and responses to medications to healthcare providers.
  • Coordinate patient care with other emergency medical team members and public safety personnel.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers and treatment centers regarding emergency situations.
  • Prepare patients for transport, ensuring compliance with medical transport regulations.
  • Inspect emergency medical equipment and vehicles for safety and compliance.
  • Complete and transfer patient care records as per established procedures, ensuring data security.
  • Provide comfort and reassurance to patients and their families.
  • Safely operate emergency vehicles in accordance with state laws and company protocols.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of an accredited Paramedic training program.
  • Current State of California Certification as an EMT-P in good standing.
  • Valid Class C California Driver License.
  • Eligibility for Hall Ambulance Service, Inc. driver's insurance policy, with a minimum age of 20 years.
  • Current Ambulance Driver Certification and Medical Examiners Certificate.
  • Current CPR certification.
