Job Overview

POSITION TITLE: Park Technician 2

OBJECTIVE: To ensure the upkeep of park grounds, facilities, and equipment within the designated area.

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Hourly – Full Time – Year-Round – Non-exempt

SALARY: $16.621/hour, with contributions to the Public Employees Retirement System from both employer and employee.

SUPERVISOR: Park Services Supervisor

DIRECT REPORTS: None

Responsibilities:

Level 1 Duties:

  • Assist in minor carpentry tasks for the repair of structures, signage, and furniture.
  • Support basic concrete projects.
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Complete training for equipment operation and ensure safe usage of tools.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in a safe and organized manner.
  • Follow safety protocols, including equipment tagout and MSDS guidelines.
  • Manage snow removal and ice control measures.
  • Perform tree maintenance tasks including bucking and chipping.
  • Maintain and enhance landscapes to meet established standards.
  • Safely apply herbicides and pesticides under supervision.
  • Assist with plumbing tasks, including winterizing facilities.
  • Conduct mowing, trimming, and general landscape maintenance.
  • Lead volunteer maintenance initiatives.
  • Identify and report safety hazards and maintenance issues.
  • Maintain cleanliness of facilities and vehicles.
  • Engage in basic painting and staining tasks.
  • Undertake other park-related responsibilities as assigned.

Level 2 Duties: Includes all Level 1 responsibilities plus:

  • Conduct repairs on structures and signage for small to medium projects.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on vehicles.
  • Complete advanced equipment operation training.
  • Oversee snow removal and ice control equipment operations.
  • Manage landscape bed maintenance and turf care.
  • Apply herbicides and pesticides with proper certification.
  • Conduct basic electrical repairs.
  • Lead volunteer projects and training.
  • Ensure safety standards are met and maintained.
  • Assist in training new staff and volunteers.
  • Manage trail maintenance and audits.
Equipment Utilized:

A variety of mowers, small engines, power tools, utility vehicles, and snow removal equipment.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in grounds and building maintenance, commensurate with assigned level.

Level 1 Skills:

  • Ability to work under moderate supervision.
  • Basic carpentry and maintenance skills.
  • Knowledge of equipment operation and safety standards.
  • Basic plumbing and janitorial skills.
  • Ability to lead and instruct volunteers.

Level 2 Skills: Includes all Level 1 skills plus:

  • Ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Advanced maintenance and repair skills.
  • Proficient in equipment operation and safety.
  • Knowledge of turf management and trail maintenance.
