KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Utilize existing PLC programs to diagnose and resolve production challenges.
  • The Automation Systems Engineer collaborates and communicates effectively with production staff and maintenance teams across various facilities.
  • Modify current PLC programs to meet production and client requirements.
  • Develop new PLC programs and routines to tackle production issues, address customer needs, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Install and maintain traceability barcode scanners and printers.
  • Provide support to two manufacturing sites across different shifts, including occasional remote assistance.
  • Be available for overtime as needed to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • The Automation Systems Engineer will undertake additional tasks as directed by the Engineering Manager.
  • Promote and uphold efficient and safe work practices by coordinating with the Human Relations and Manufacturing Engineering Departments to maintain a high-efficiency, accident-free operation.
PLC PROGRAMMING:
  • Proficiency in programming with Allen Bradley ladder logic is essential.
  • Experience with Rockwell Logix 5000, Studio 5000, and Logix 500 programming software is required.
  • Familiarity with other programming languages such as Function Block Diagram, Sequential Function Chart, and Structured Text is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Siemens Step 7 is a plus.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley servo motion control is preferred.
HMI PROGRAMMING AND DEVELOPMENT:
  • Proficient in the Factory Talk View Studio software development environment.
  • Ability to modify existing HMI programs and create new screens or visual elements.
  • Familiarity with additional HMI software such as Pro Face is a plus.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS:
  • Knowledgeable in troubleshooting, commissioning, and utilizing field bus technologies such as IO-Link.
  • Experience in developing, integrating, and maintaining vision systems for robust poke yokes on production equipment using technologies from Cognex, Keyence, and/or Vitronics.
  • Familiarity with fastening/torque applications such as Atlas Copco.
  • Experience with data collection through OPC and SCADA solutions like Inductive Automation Ignition.
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot IP addresses for various controllers, computers, printers, and other TCP/IP devices using utilities like BOOTP and IP Ping scanners.
  • Familiarity with robotic systems such as FANUC, Yaskawa, Universal Robotics, or similar is a plus.
  • Knowledge of databases such as Microsoft SQL Server or similar is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with scripting/programming languages such as Python is a plus.
EXPERIENCE:
  • 2-5 years of relevant work experience is required, preferably in the automotive sector.
  • Demonstrated strong critical thinking and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Capability to mentor and train others in control systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information effectively.
  • A consistent employment history with good attendance and adaptability to a collaborative team environment is essential.
