Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Middle School Special Education Teacher to join our team at Kalamazoo County Area Schools Employment Consortium. As a Resource Room Educator, you will be responsible for providing instruction and support to students with disabilities in a general education environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities
  • Provide instruction in core curriculum, transition/life skills, and social skills to students with varying abilities
  • Collaborate with general education and special education staff to ensure successful programming and meet individual needs
  • Collect and analyze data on student achievement to inform instructional programming
  • Champion and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom and school community
Requirements
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
  • Special Education Certification in at least one area of disability (CI, EI, LD, etc.)
  • Experience teaching students with disabilities in a general education environment
  • Knowledge of the Michigan Academic Standards and Extended Common Core State Standards - Levels of Complexity
  • Understanding of assessment methods, including progress monitoring, curriculum-based measurement, and formative assessment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with students with Cognitive Impairments
  • Knowledge of social-emotional learning strategies and exceptional learner needs
