Role Overview:
As an Activities Assistant, you will support the Director of Therapeutic Recreation and/or Memory Care Program Coordinator in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operations of the Therapeutic Recreation Department. This ensures that a continuous program of activities is maintained, tailored to meet the interests and the physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each resident, in accordance with comprehensive assessments.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent is required.
- Preferred: At least one (1) year of experience in an Activities Department within a hospital, skilled nursing care facility, or other related medical environment.
- We are willing to train the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in planning and delivering patient care by regularly visiting residents to assess their needs.
- Document and communicate any unusual or significant findings to the nursing department.
- Immediately report all reportable events in accordance with our policies.
- Encourage residents to engage in daily living activities that will enhance their physical, mental, social, and spiritual potential.
- Prioritize spending time with residents over interactions with other facility staff.
- Assist in establishing resident care goals in collaboration with the entire therapeutic team.
Specific Requirements:
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to make independent decisions when necessary.
- Ability to interact tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.
- Knowledgeable in the Privacy Rule and ensure compliance with facility privacy practices, policies, and procedures.
- Possess patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, with the ability to engage residents at their current maturity level.
- Willingness to explore new methods and principles and integrate them into existing policies and procedures.
- Ability to communicate information regarding a resident's condition effectively.
- Participation in continuing education and in-service training is required.
