Company Overview:
At Relativity Space, we are on a mission to revolutionize the aerospace industry by establishing a premier commercial launch company and pioneering advancements in additive manufacturing. Our vision extends to creating a sustainable industrial presence on Mars, enabling the expansion of human life beyond Earth. This ambitious journey starts with our innovative rocket designs, including the Terran R, aimed at meeting the increasing demand for launch services while optimizing costs through our agile design and testing methodologies.
Your experience with us transcends traditional employment; it is a chance to influence the future of aerospace technology and additive manufacturing within a community of innovative thinkers. Together, we are committed to turning our ambitious goals into tangible achievements.
About the Team:
The Structures team at Relativity is tasked with the comprehensive design, analysis, testing, and production of our launch vehicle structures and flight mechanisms. As a member of this team, you will have ownership of hardware throughout its entire lifecycle, with opportunities to validate your designs through rigorous testing at our state-of-the-art facilities. You will collaborate across various teams to harness our unique 3D printing capabilities, contributing to the development of exceptional integrated launch vehicles, which are vital for the success of our missions.
About the Role:
Your responsibilities will encompass the entire design process, from initial concepts to final testing, focusing on primary and secondary structures such as Thrust Structures, Propellant Tanks, and Fairings. Creativity and innovation will be essential as you work to minimize weight, components, and manufacturing processes.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Innovative design of structural load paths and complex structures.
- Reviewing static and dynamic load inputs, material characteristics, and structural requirements.
- Conducting analysis and sizing of flight structures to facilitate timely design evaluations.
- Developing and overseeing hardware testing initiatives, including integration and evaluation of results.
- Contributing to the development of manufacturing processes.
To excel in this position, you should be self-driven, adaptable, and capable of leading projects to successful completion in a dynamic environment. A strong background in mechanical or structural design, along with a proven ability to collaborate effectively on projects, is essential.
On a regular basis, you will design flight components for our upcoming vehicles using industry-standard software, perform analyses with tools such as Nastran and ANSYS, and create and release technical drawings while supporting the fabrication of your designs. You will take full ownership of your projects from requirements through to production, ensuring thorough documentation and clear communication of your recommendations.
About You:
- 8+ years of experience in a design engineering capacity.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- Extensive experience with CAD software such as NX, Creo, or Solidworks.
- Proficient in structural analysis techniques and testing methodologies.
- Strong understanding of structural integrity, stability, and fatigue failure mechanisms.
- Familiarity with both additive and traditional manufacturing processes.
- Experience managing projects through their full lifecycle.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience in mechanical or structural design and analysis.
- Advanced proficiency with NX/TeamCenter.
- Expertise in using Nastran and ANSYS software.
- Knowledge of GD&T and drafting standards.
