Veterinary Anatomic Pathologist

We are seeking a highly qualified Veterinary Anatomic Pathologist to join our team at South Dakota State University. As a tenure-track faculty member, you will have the opportunity to develop and lead an active research program, contribute to teaching and mentoring, and engage in diagnostic service within the Animal Disease Research & Diagnostic Laboratory (ADRDL).
Responsibilities- Develop and lead an extramurally-funded research program in food animal infectious disease pathogenesis and prevention, and/or diagnostic test development.
- Provide research opportunities to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.
- Coordinate and teach basic and systemic pathology courses in the Professional Program in Veterinary Medicine (PPVM) curriculum.
- Team-teach in the PPVM basic and systemic pathology courses in an experiential and active learning environment.
- Provide timely diagnostic pathology services, including necropsy, histopathology, and interpretation of ancillary tests, as required for mammalian and avian specimens.
- Consult with veterinarians and producers regarding livestock, avian, and wildlife disease diagnosis, control, and prevention.
- DVM, VMD, or equivalent veterinary degree by start date.
- Advanced graduate degree (MS or PhD) in veterinary pathology or a closely related veterinary field.
- Completion of formal residency training in anatomic pathology with experience in veterinary diagnostic pathology and food animal pathology.
- Eligibility for or certification by ACVP or ECVP.
- Ability to establish an extramurally funded research program that focuses on diseases of food animals.
- Ability to establish collaborations with external and internal stakeholders.
- Potential to produce peer-reviewed publications related to expertise.
- Ability to teach at the collegiate and/or professional school level.
- Ability to mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
- Knowledge of food animal production in the United States.
