Job Summary

As a Program Director for the School of Histotechnology, you will be responsible for planning and coordinating activities related to managing the school under accreditation standards established by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) and within Detroit Medical Center policies and procedures.

You will develop, administer, organize, review, and evaluate the effectiveness of the program to ensure compliance with external accreditation requirements. Additionally, you will select candidates for the school, participate in budget planning, and maintain current knowledge of the professional discipline and educational methodologies through continuing professional development and scholarly activities.

This role requires a baccalaureate degree or higher, with a master's degree preferred. You must hold ASCP-BOC or ASCPi-BOC certification as a Histotechnologist or Histotechnician and have competence in diagnostic histotechnology. Three to five years' experience in Histotechnology Education is also required, including teaching courses, conducting and supervising histology laboratory experiences, evaluating student achievement, and program effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement educational programs and curricula
  • Recruit and select candidates for the school
  • Participate in budget planning and management
  • Maintain current knowledge of professional discipline and educational methodologies
  • Assist in the practical training of students in histology methodologies

Requirements:

  • Baccalaureate degree or higher
  • ASCP-BOC or ASCPi-BOC certification as a Histotechnologist or Histotechnician
  • Three to five years' experience in Histotechnology Education
  • Working knowledge of educational theory or practice
  • Knowledge of NAACLS accreditation
