Position Overview:

We are currently seeking an Entry Level Rail Operations Technician. Candidates must be able to successfully complete a physical examination, drug screening, and background check.

Work Schedule: Day shift, 12-hour shifts.

Railserve is a premier provider of in-plant rail switching, transloading, and material handling services, operating across more than 75 locations in North America. We utilize our own locomotives and skilled personnel to safely maneuver railcars within various industrial, manufacturing, and production facilities. In addition to railcar movement, we offer a range of services including loading, unloading, track maintenance, and inspections.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate electric, diesel-electric, or gas-turbine-electric locomotives.
  • Interpret train orders, signals, and regulations to ensure safe operation.
  • Transport freight and manage the timely switching and placement of railcars.
  • Conduct pre-operation inspections of locomotives to verify fuel, sand, water, and other supplies.
  • Respond to starting signals and control locomotive movements using throttle and airbrakes.
  • Assist in training new employees under the guidance of the crew leader.
  • Monitor tracks for obstructions and prepare reports on incidents or delays.
  • Perform routine maintenance, including lubrication of moving parts.
  • Safely handle train equipment and apply hand brakes as needed.
  • Utilize hand tools and equipment while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Military experience is a plus.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Dependability and punctuality are essential; reliable transportation is required.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with active listening abilities.
  • Capability to prioritize multiple tasks and develop effective plans for completion.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Physical Requirements:

This role involves moderate to heavy physical effort, including standing, walking, and lifting. Employees may need to climb, balance, and use hand tools and power equipment while following safety guidelines to prevent injuries.
