Registered Nurse

WJM Professionals is recruiting for a Registered Nurse to work in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the Richmond VA Medical Center. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of direct patient care experience within the last three years in the field.
The Registered Nurse will be responsible for conducting bedside rounds with off-going nurses on assigned patients, checking off IVs, administering medications, and observing for therapeutic effects. The nurse will also be responsible for initiating venipuncture for lab work or IV therapy, obtaining blood specimens from arterial lines, and verifying and reporting lab results to the physician.
The ideal candidate will be licensed in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia, and will have ACLS and BLS certifications. The nurse will be required to work all shifts in a 24-hour period, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct bedside rounds with off-going nurses on assigned patients.
- Check off IVs, administer medications, and observe for therapeutic effects.
- Initiate venipuncture for lab work or IV therapy.
- Obtain blood specimens from arterial lines and verify and report lab results to the physician.
- Maintain arterial and thermos dilution catheter lines as necessary.
- Record and interpret PA pressure readings.
- Perform cardiac outputs as ordered and call physicians to report all abnormal readings.
- Interpret EKG readings on the Med/Surg and ICUs and notify the physician of cardiac arrhythmias.
- Maintain special therapeutic devices.
- Transcribe and/or verify physician orders.
- Narcotics count - Ensure narcotics and keys are accounted for before leaving.
- At least two years of direct patient care experience within the last three years in the field.
- Licensed in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.
- ACLS and BLS certifications.
- Ability to work all shifts in a 24-hour period, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
