Role Summary: Senior Estimator
The Senior Estimator plays a crucial role in managing the bidding and estimating processes for various mid-sized to large-scale projects. This position demands exceptional time management, communication, and client service skills. The Senior Estimator will actively engage with subcontractors to ensure timely receipt of bids and collaborate with Project Management teams to monitor bids and budgets throughout the project lifecycle. This role requires a blend of experience and judgment to effectively plan and achieve project goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive estimates for structural concrete, including workforce production, material, subcontractor, and vendor estimates, along with ongoing change order estimating support throughout the project.
- Generate accurate and detailed budgets and estimates within the designated time frame.
- Identify atypical project costs and develop strategies to align them with expected costs, documenting suggestions for the Owner and Architect to minimize deviations during the design phase.
- Analyze current market conditions to explain variations in expected costs.
- Mentor and develop entry-level estimators.
- Conduct conceptual estimating for civil, architectural, and structural components of projects, typically ranging from $20 million to $75 million.
- Coordinate active projects to ensure adequate participation from trade partners through reviews and presentations.
- Prepare Cost Revision Logs (CRL) with associated pricing for potential cost-saving initiatives.
- Lead project presentations to Owners and Architects.
- Act as a liaison among the owner, architects, subcontractors, and the company.
- Produce quantitative surveys and accurate pricing from project inception to an acceptable working budget, GMP, or Lump Sum Price.
- Coordinate project documentation for GMP and Lump Sum Bid delivery methods.
- Outline clarifications and qualifications within estimates.
- Provide backup for estimates during analysis and review.
- Identify indirect costs and General Condition items within estimates.
- Maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing, updating the vendor database as necessary.
- Compile comprehensive estimate/bid package breakdowns based on input from team members.
- Establish estimating protocols for specific documentation types.
- Demonstrate creativity and resourcefulness to secure better pricing from subcontractors and enhance subcontractor participation.
- Ensure 100% of bids and budgets are submitted by the deadline, allowing adequate time for review and modifications.
- Input all relevant information into Foundation Software.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Proficient in navigating complex software platforms, including Excel, Sage, Destini, Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Project, Procore, Bluebeam, Smartsheet, Zoom, Revit, Building Connected, Assemble, and Foundation Accounting (or similar construction accounting software).
Experience Requirements:
- BS or MS degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 6-10 years of relevant experience.
- Current driver's license.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
Authority:
The Senior Estimator operates under the guidance of the Senior Estimator, Senior Project Manager, and Executive Team, responsible for supervising and coordinating the project team's daily efforts.
Work Conditions:
This position typically requires 8-10 hours of work per day, Monday through Friday, primarily in the Colas Construction main office, with occasional job site visits.
