Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Power Systems Engineering Consultant to join our team. As a consultant, you will be responsible for managing and acting as technical solution delivery lead/consultant on projects related to electrical transmission system planning studies to determine transmission requirements, and generation additions & retirements. You will also perform power systems analysis including transmission planning feasibility studies, System Impact Studies and Generator Interconnection Studies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and act as technical solution delivery lead/consultant on projects related to electrical transmission system planning studies to determine transmission requirements, and generation additions & retirements.
  • Familiarity with or ability to quickly grasp various transmission planning concepts, practices and procedures, and ability to apply Transmission Planning reliability criteria to perform analysis.
  • Perform power systems analysis including transmission planning feasibility studies, System Impact Studies and Generator Interconnection Studies.
  • Study thermal overloads and recommend mitigations / transmission upgrades.
  • Develop / fine tune dynamic models for conventional and inverter-based resources (IBRs) and implement them for stability/transient simulation based analysis.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or power systems engineering AND 3+ years post-graduation work experience within the Bulk Electric System; Or PhD/Master's degree in electrical or power systems engineering AND 1+ year post-graduation work experience within the Bulk Electric System.
  • In-depth knowledge of transmission and distribution systems from a planning and operations standpoint.
  • Familiarity with and ability to quickly become adept at FERC, NERC, and state regulatory requirements and processes.
  • Technical understanding and ability to learn various power systems engineering tools such as PSLF, POWERWORLD Simulator, PSSE, ASPEN, TARA, CAPE, DSA Tools, PSCAD or EMTP.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills.
