Position Overview
This role is situated within the Space Systems Development (SSD) unit, which is focused on pioneering next-generation concepts and systems that support sustainable living and working in space.
Key Responsibilities
As a pivotal member of our diverse team of spacecraft development engineers, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Conducting early concept studies and developing architectural frameworks for GN&C mode states and operational concepts.
- Deriving and refining GN&C requirements, performing analyses to validate these requirements, and maintaining subsystem specifications and performance metrics.
- Collaborating with other subsystem and spacecraft systems engineers to establish GN&C boundaries and interfaces.
- Defining, developing, and executing simulations and tools necessary for verifying functionalities.
- Supporting verification and testing processes to ensure compliance of the GN&C subsystem with its requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates must possess:
- A minimum of a B.S. in aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering or a related discipline.
- At least 5 years of design experience specifically focused on spacecraft GN&C development.
- Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation, and testing of GN&C algorithms on aerospace vehicles.
- Experience in formulating requirements, interfaces, trades, and analyses for GN&C applications.
- Proven expertise in modeling and simulation.
- Familiarity with fundamentals of flight management, guidance, control, navigation, and astrodynamics.
- Proficiency in Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Eligibility as a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or lawful refugee/asylee.
Preferred Qualifications
Ideal candidates will also have:
- An M.S. or PhD in aerospace engineering or a related technical field.
- Experience with Rendezvous, Proximity, and Docking (RPO/D) concepts, algorithms, trajectories, and operational requirements.
- Experience in the complete lifecycle development of GN&C and/or Autonomy on spacecraft, including integrated testing in high-fidelity environments.
- Experience in designing, evaluating, and simulating state machines.
- Familiarity with collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation varies by location, and details will be provided by the recruiter. Paid time off includes up to four weeks per year and up to 14 company-paid holidays.
