Student & Special Services/Speech and Language Pathologist

Role Overview:
As a Speech and Language Pathologist, you will be responsible for delivering specialized services to students experiencing challenges with speech, voice, or language.

Your primary objective will be to assess and provide therapeutic interventions that address and mitigate issues affecting students' educational experiences.


Therapeutic Responsibilities:
1.

Design and implement tailored individual and group therapy sessions aligned with the speech and language objectives outlined in Individual Education Plans (IEP).

2. Monitor and evaluate student progress to determine the appropriate time for concluding therapy services.
Assessment Duties:
3. Conduct comprehensive evaluations to identify students with speech or language disorders and ascertain their eligibility for services.
4. Formulate clinical management strategies and diagnostic conclusions based on thorough analysis of observations and data.

Engage in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to aid in the interpretation of assessment results, suitable placement, and goal formulation for students with communication disorders in accordance with district protocols.


Consultative Functions:
6. Provide guidance and involve parents in the remediation process.
7. Collaborate with educators to develop and execute classroom activities aimed at enhancing students' communication skills.
8. Offer professional development opportunities within assigned schools to equip staff with the skills to recognize and address communication deficits in students.
9. Maintain effective communication with colleagues, students, and parents regarding therapy objectives and student needs.
Student Management:
10. Foster a learning environment that is conducive to student engagement and appropriate for their developmental levels.
11. Implement disciplinary measures in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and institutional guidelines.
Program Oversight:
12. May oversee the work of licensed speech-language pathology assistants or aides.
13. Develop and manage an ongoing evaluation of speech-language pathology services, making adjustments based on findings.
14. Assist in selecting necessary equipment and instructional materials.
Administrative Duties:
15. Maintain comprehensive records, reports, and documentation as required.
16. Adhere to policies set forth by federal and state regulations, as well as district guidelines.
17. Follow all district and campus procedures and protocols.
18. Participate in professional development to enhance job-related skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
May oversee the activities of speech-language pathology assistants or aides.

Mental and Physical Demands:
Maintain emotional stability under pressure. Travel to various work locations as assigned; moderate lifting and carrying may be required.

Assistance with lifting and transferring students with physical disabilities may also be necessary.


Qualifications:
Master's degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited institution
Valid Texas license as a speech-language pathologist issued by the State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (SBESLPA)
or
Bachelor's degree
Valid Texas Education Agency speech therapy certificate

Essential Knowledge and Skills:
Proficiency in utilizing standardized assessments to evaluate communication disorders
Understanding of the evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation processes for speech-language disorders
Ability to instruct and manage student behavior effectively
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
