Key Responsibilities:
Food Preparation:
- Prepares and cooks meals that may require minimal preparation time.
- Ensures meals are prepared in accordance with program needs and applicable federal and state standards to provide high-quality food service while maintaining sanitation standards.
- Follows established recipes and product guidelines for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, and serving.
- Operates various kitchen equipment to measure and mix ingredients, wash, peel, cut, and shred fruits and vegetables, and prepare meats, poultry, or fish.
- Tastes dishes, reads menus, estimates food requirements, checks production, and maintains records to accurately plan production needs and requisition supplies.
Inventory Management:
- Oversees the delivery of grocery and catering supplies as assigned.
- Maintains inventory of food and supplies and assists in ordering as necessary.
- May receive inventory, handle food and supplies, and prepare meals for participants with special dietary needs.
Safety and Sanitation:
- Reports all incidents and injuries promptly.
- Adheres to all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
- May clean and sanitize work areas and equipment, complying with all standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements.
Compliance:
- Participates in designated training programs (both in-person and virtual).
- Maintains required training hours as per licensure guidelines.
Transportation:
- May be required to deliver or pick up meals or grocery items in the absence of designated personnel.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required, with a minimum of four years of relevant experience in an institutional setting, such as a school cafeteria, banquet hall, or catering service.
Certifications:
- State and city food service sanitation certificate preferred; must obtain within the first 90 days of employment.
- Driver's License and clean driving record preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude.
- Strong communication skills with co-workers and other departments, maintaining professionalism and respect.
- Familiarity with kitchen equipment and ability to follow recipes independently.
- Mathematical skills for measuring and estimating food quantities.
- Problem-solving skills to address various situations effectively.
- Intermediate to advanced knife skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other commonly used software.
Work Arrangement:
This position does not allow for remote work.
