Job Overview
As a Municipal Code Compliance Specialist, you will play a vital role in upholding the City’s regulations and ensuring community standards are met. Under general supervision, you will perform a variety of technical duties to support the General Code Enforcement Unit, focusing on zoning, property upkeep, and other facets of the Municipal Code. Your ability to interpret and clarify laws and regulations will be essential in fostering compliance among residents and businesses.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to complaints related to zoning infringements, abandoned vehicles, signage regulations, property maintenance issues, and building/housing code violations.
- Prepare case files by researching legal ownership and verifying necessary information for investigations and enforcement actions.
- Issue correction notices, citations, and other legal documents to violators.
- Conduct follow-up inspections and maintain accurate records for ongoing investigations.
- Document violations to encourage voluntary compliance and organize community clean-up initiatives.
- Attend neighborhood meetings to provide information and resources to property owners.
- Collaborate with various departments and agencies to address neighborhood nuisances.
- Review and inspect business licenses to ensure compliance with city regulations.
Qualifications and Skills
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:
- Knowledge of planning, zoning, and land-use procedures, as well as investigation principles and applicable laws.
- Strong communication skills to effectively convey complex regulations to the public.
- The ability to mediate conflicts and foster cooperative relationships.
- Proficiency in utilizing technology for reporting and documentation.
Physical Requirements
This position requires considerable physical activity, including the ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods. Candidates must be capable of operating a motor vehicle and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
Licenses and Certifications
A valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are required. Candidates must also pass a thorough background check prior to employment.
