Description
The Economic Supports division within Human Services and Public Health is looking to hire multiple Community Support Specialists. We seek individuals who possess exceptional customer service and communication abilities, a capacity to grasp intricate programs, and a genuine commitment to community service. Candidates must be adept at managing high-pressure situations while engaging in regular client interactions.
Responsibilities:
- Effectively communicate complex program requirements, expectations, and timelines to a diverse array of residents through various channels including in-person, telephone, and written correspondence; direct residents to supplementary community resources.
- Clarify the enrollment process for healthcare, cash, and food support programs to residents through multiple communication methods.
- Utilize various county and state computer systems to access client and case information; enter data, process, approve, and issue benefits; consult manuals, guides, and other policy/program-related resources.
- Act as a primary communication liaison for partner agencies such as Childcare Assistance and Employment Services; relay program information to external providers (e.g., landlords, clinics, and hospitals).
- Support other county personnel, both within and outside the team, to ensure outstanding customer service.
Qualifications:
- One of the following:
- Two or more years of experience in customer/client service.
- Completion of a Public Welfare Financial Worker Associate of Arts and Sciences (A.A.S) degree from an accredited institution.
- One year of the required experience and completion of the Human Services Pathways Program.
- 60 or more semester credits in human services or behavioral sciences such as psychology, sociology, social work, or a related field.
- Reliable transportation for travel to various Human Service Center locations.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with:
- Data entry and management using computer systems.
- Managing multiple complex tasks while maintaining organizational and time management skills.
- Providing customer service with tact and discretion.
- Engaging with a diverse clientele, including those with limited income, elderly, disabled, and other populations in need.
- Delivering person-centered customer service utilizing empathy and trauma-informed approaches.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant computer programs.
Essential Abilities:
- Employ critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.
- Maintain professionalism and handle sensitive issues with tact.
- Recognize and respect cultural differences, providing culturally competent services.
- Quickly learn and adapt to complex program guidelines and evolving policies.
- Collaborate effectively within a team to deliver timely services to residents in need.
Additional Information:
Fluency in additional languages besides English is encouraged, as bilingual candidates may qualify for extra pay and responsibilities.
