Responsibilities:- Provide considerate and respectful care to patients, ensuring their individual needs are met and their satisfaction is high.
- Affirm patients' rights to make decisions about their medical care, including the right to discontinue treatment, to the extent permitted by law.
- Complete life-span education as appropriate and obtain a complete nursing history and baseline assessment that is systematic, consistent, and continuous.
- Document results of patient assessment, nursing diagnosis, care plan, nursing interventions, and evaluation in the medical record according to hospital and nursing policy.
- Analyze patient information and assessment to determine nursing diagnosis and needs for appropriate nursing care, medical intervention, or services of other clinical professionals.
- Identify patient problems and formulate nursing diagnoses according to physical, psychological, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs in conjunction with a multi-disciplinary approach.
- Consistently include patients and families in the development of an individualized plan of care.
- Administer medication as needed, following CSHS policies and manufacturer's instructions.
- Take immediate and appropriate actions in the event of a medication variance occurrence.
- Recognize changes in patient condition and/or emergency situations and take immediate and appropriate actions.
- Participate in unit conferences to discuss quality issues and quality improvement strategies.
- Delegate components of care to non-professional caregivers as appropriate and follow up on any delegated components of care and assignments given.
- Make decisions that demonstrate knowledge of nursing practice and utilize sound nursing judgment in clinical and patient care management situations.
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills in the care of patients and in the coordination of care to assure the best patient outcomes.
- Follow CSHS Pain Assessment policy.
- Successfully function as a Resource Nurse, making decisions in the absence of the Clinical Leader and/or the Nurse Manager.
- Support cost containment through efficient use of equipment, supplies, and other pertinent resources.
- Recognize adverse reactions to medications and take immediate and appropriate action.
- Evaluate the patient's needs for discharge and access appropriate resources for the patient and/or family.
- Consistently provide written and verbal education to patients and/or families.
- Successfully function as a preceptor/mentor to students and new staff members.
- Consistently promote teamwork within the unit and between departments.
- Consistently adhere to hospital policy regarding the insertion, maintenance, and removal of foley catheters.
- Able to verbalize and demonstrate proper rationale and techniques surrounding all aspects of indwelling urinary catheter care as per policy #4668.
- Fulfill the requirements for competencies and completion of annual mandatories surrounding indwelling urinary catheter care.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
- Two years of telemetry experience preferred.
- Related experience preferred.
- RN license/NJ required.
- BLS certification required.
- ACLS certification required.
- Successful Completion of Basic Dysrhythmia course to be achieved within First Year.
- CSMC IV Certification to be achieved within First Year.
- Stroke Education requirements to be achieved within First Year then maintained thereafter.
- Specialty professional nursing certification preferred.
- Non-violent Crisis Intervention certification required. New hires must receive certification within 3 months of hire. Renewal certifications will be completed every 2 years.
- Strong professional, organizational, and interpersonal skills to effectively relate with all members of the healthcare team.
