Core Responsibilities:

The 0-5 Head Start Classroom Aide collaborates with educational staff to ensure the effective delivery of the 0-5 Head Start program, adhering to the Head Start Program Performance Standards, Child Day Care Licensing Requirements, and CACFP Regulations.

Key Duties Include:

  1. Maintaining a safe, healthy, and organized environment for children through daily supervision of activities and upkeep of the classroom.
  2. Assisting with children and classroom activities as directed.
  3. Preparing meals and snacks according to established menus.
  4. Understanding and complying with all policies, procedures, and requirements outlined in the Head Start Program Performance Standards, Child Day Care Licensing, and CACFP.
  5. Engaging positively with children, parents, volunteers, and staff through both verbal and non-verbal communication.
  6. Participating in required training sessions and completing a minimum of 16 hours of professional development training annually on relevant topics.
  7. Assisting with record-keeping as assigned.
  8. Informing the Supervisor in advance of any absences.
  9. Performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Strong listening skills, verbal communication, and positive guidance techniques.
  2. Ability to effectively supervise preschool and infant/toddler classrooms.
  3. Capability to plan and execute tasks efficiently.
  4. Ability to work collaboratively with others.
  5. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Proven ability to interact positively with parents and children in a supportive manner.
  7. Completion of an initial health examination, including tuberculosis screening, and periodic re-examinations as recommended by a healthcare provider or mandated by local laws.
  8. No exclusionary findings on a Comprehensive Criminal History Check.
  9. Access to reliable transportation.
  10. A valid Michigan driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  11. Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Experience in early childhood programs is preferred.
  3. Successful completion of all required training topics as mandated by Child Day Care Licensing within specified timeframes.
  4. Completion of 16 hours of professional development training annually.
