Job Overview

Position Title: Welding Technician

Classification: Hourly

Department: Tooling

Reporting To: Tooling Supervisor

Position Summary:

The Welding Technician is responsible for processing forging dies through repair techniques, including welding and polishing, while adhering to quality and safety standards. This role involves maintaining accurate records and ensuring the upkeep of equipment and supplies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform hand polishing on die surfaces, execute manual crack repairs, and conduct trim die fitting and repairs.
  • Inspect completed tooling for smoothness, contour accuracy, and surface imperfections.
  • Assemble and fit components to manufacture, repair, or modify forging dies.
  • Polish, grind, shim, and adjust various parts to ensure proper alignment.
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot robotic welding systems (on-the-job training provided).
  • Utilize power saws, shears, grinders, and hand tools to cut, shape, and trim materials to specified dimensions.
  • Verify welding machine and process configurations, ensuring compliance with documentation.
  • Document activities by maintaining production and quality logs.
  • Conduct daily preventative maintenance on equipment, troubleshoot minor issues, and report significant repair needs to maintenance personnel.
  • Contribute to departmental objectives by taking responsibility for the welding and polishing processes.
  • Ensure safe operations by adhering to established safety protocols and regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace by implementing 5S principles.

Qualifications:

  1. Required Education & Experience:
    • Prior experience in welding.
    • High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Required Skills & Abilities:
    • Capability to perform assigned tasks independently and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to follow directions from Supervisors/Foremen while fostering a cooperative work environment.
    • Proficient in developing and executing detailed daily plans.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and effective management of time and resources.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience in tool & die, welding, or die maintenance, or a related field.
  • Technical degree in welding or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience in a metals or manufacturing setting.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for 8 hours a day.
  • Capability to lift up to 75 lbs.
