Pathologists Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pathologists Assistant to join our team at Northwestern Memorial Healthcare. As a key member of our surgical pathology department, you will play a critical role in supporting the pathologists in the gross examination and sampling of biopsy and surgical tissue specimens.
Responsibilities- Perform gross examination and dissection of surgical biopsies and large complicated specimens, maintaining specimen integrity and accurate legible specimen identification throughout all technical and clerical processes.
- Provide assistance with intra-operative consultations, cutting, staining, and covering cryostat sections for timely review, and documenting turn-around-time tracking information.
- Prepare specimens for imaging and photographs, maintain imaging equipment and files, and organize radiology files and photography.
- Participate in perinatal and adult autopsies as assigned, reviewing autopsy permit and patient charts, performing related autopsy procedures, and reviewing gross and microscopic findings with attending.
- Assist with orientation and instruction of pathology residents and medical students in Surgical Pathology and Autopsy procedures, including specimen description, dissections, dictation techniques, basic specimen handling, and use of Anatomic Pathology equipment.
- Provide clinical performance feedback on pathology residents and prepare materials and participate in conferences with residents, pathologists, and clinical staff.
- Assist in grossing and distributing tissues and organs to approved researchers, performing technical and clerical tasks related to research projects.
- Exercise independent judgment in the performance of technical responsibilities, prioritizing technical workload based on assignment or established priorities, and responding effectively to changes in workflow.
- Masters of Science, Pathologists' Assistant's degree, and Pathologists' Assistant Certification (ASCP) or eligible for certification or Illinois licensed MD/DO with current or completed enrollment in anatomical pathology.
