Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Technician II to join our team at Baltimore City Public Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and assisting in the maintenance of all mechanical equipment, including pumps, motors, and compressors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on all mechanical equipment, including pumps, motors, and compressors.
  • Assist in the maintenance of boilers, burners, hot water generators, water heaters, and pool filtration equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on all HVAC equipment, including building exhaust fans, air handling units, roof top units, unit ventilators, and cooling towers.
  • Assist in the research and establishment of an inventory of all equipment specific to each building, including manufacturers, serial numbers, and model numbers.
  • Assist in the training and instruction of facilities management and custodial personnel on preventative maintenance schedules and procedures.
  • Record and maintain accurate records of all preventative maintenance and minor repairs performed.
  • Establish a working relationship with the preventative maintenance administrator and keep them informed on the preventative maintenance work performed.
  • Perform coil cleaning of HVAC equipment using special spray equipment and appropriate coil cleaning chemicals.
  • Respond and assist during situations including inclement weather assignments, vandalism, and emergency repairs.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in maintenance or a related field.
  • Plumbing, HVAC, and general contracting certifications are preferred.
  • General knowledge of all building systems, including plumbing, electrical, and HVAC, plus structural and carpentry considerations.
  • Must have prior experience in preventative maintenance procedures, including scheduling and follow-up.
  • Must be able to keep accurate records of preventative maintenance performed and minor repairs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Physically able to perform the essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodations, including lifting materials weighing up to 50 pounds and the ability to climb ladders more than 15 feet.
  • Hold and maintain a valid driver's license with a willingness to pursue a commercial driver's license.
  • Exposure to chemicals related to mechanical equipment cleaning and lubrication oils and degreasers.
