Position Overview

The Radiation Therapist plays a crucial role in the administration of radiation therapy as directed by the Radiation Oncologist. This position requires an individual who is not only skilled in technical procedures but also possesses strong interpersonal communication abilities to effectively interact with patients, healthcare professionals, and support staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Interaction: Engage with patients of all ages, providing reassurance and support throughout their treatment journey.
  • Technical Duties: Set up patients accurately for radiation treatment, ensuring proper delivery and operation of treatment machines.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records, including patient treatment areas and reactions, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed and filed appropriately.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other medical staff to coordinate patient care and address any concerns that arise during treatment.
  • Quality Assurance: Participate in performance improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with safety protocols and operational standards.
Qualifications
  • Must hold an ARRT certification.
  • Current BLS certification is required; RQI certifications are not acceptable.
  • Experience with Elekta or Varian equipment is preferred.
Work Environment

This role involves working in a dynamic healthcare setting, where the therapist will be responsible for the care and treatment of patients undergoing radiation therapy. The therapist must ensure that treatment rooms are organized and adequately stocked with necessary supplies.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Ensure that patient marks are preserved throughout the treatment process.
  • Educate patients on potential side effects and adverse reactions related to their treatment.
  • Conduct weekly chart audits to verify adherence to treatment protocols.
