POSITION SUMMARY AND REQUIREMENTS:

The African American Studies Program at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking applications for part-time lecturer positions.

The Department of African American Studies serves as a collaborative space for scholars, students, and thinkers dedicated to the exploration of African American and African-descended communities in the Americas. With faculty expertise spanning anthropology, English, history, philosophy, and other fields, our collective efforts promote a profound understanding of the diverse cultures and expressions within the diaspora. As we encourage meaningful engagement with the socio-economic and political realities of black life on campus and beyond, we aim to cultivate a dynamic community of inquiry and innovation at Penn State.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Part-time lecturers will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in African American Studies in a residential, in-person format.
Qualifications:
  • Applicants should hold at least a master's degree or its equivalent, or be an active candidate for a terminal degree in a relevant academic discipline; a Master's degree in a related field is highly preferred.
  • Candidates with a Ph.D. in a related field may also be considered for teaching upper-level undergraduate courses.
These positions are non-tenure track appointments for one semester. Lecturers typically teach one to two courses. CAMPUS SECURITY CRIME STATISTICS:

In accordance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes an Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies regarding campus security, including matters related to alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other issues. The ASR is available for review.
