Maintenance Planner Job Description

The Maintenance Planner plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our production facilities. This position is responsible for planning and scheduling preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, and corrective maintenance repairs to support production requirements in a safe and efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure full compliance with all regulatory requirements regarding Safety & Health and Environmental matters.
  • Prepare and develop weekly work schedules for routine and corrective/breakdown maintenance activities for all non-emergency maintenance work.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities between all departments, with outside contractors, and among various work groups to ensure that jobs progress in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Plan and schedule major maintenance and project work at all site operations to promote timely and cost-effective completion of work.
  • Analyze work stoppages to identify and correct the underlying cause of recurring problems.
  • Generate maintenance performance metrics as assigned.
  • Organize and maintain equipment history files, equipment information, and vendor literature to assist with planning activities in plant files both electronically and on paper.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records within the CMMS.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance Manager and Supervisors to develop PM/PdM program and coordinates maintenance and repair of plant equipment which impacts both production and quality.
  • Schedules calibration of plant equipment in cooperation with production personnel.
  • Develop job plan packages for maintenance work and small modification projects while assuring work orders are assigned proper work order type and other codes.
  • Ensure procedures and material used complies with government regulation/specification, applicable codes/standards, and have consistent approach towards EHS procedures, MSHA/OSHA regulations, and environmental standards.
  • Populate and update the job plans and PM/PdM schedule based on the approved maintenance strategy.
  • Commitment to all aspects of MSHA/OSHA standards.
  • Makes recommendations for parts and supplies needed on hand, and develops comprehensive spare parts lists (Bills of Material) for all equipment.
  • Using the continuous improvement philosophy look for opportunities to improve quality, costs, productivities, and other efficiencies while eliminating waste.
  • Monitor operating costs. Strive to provide the highest quality product at the lowest possible cost. Initiate programs to adhere to standards and/or establish improved standards.
Requirements:
  • Strong working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles, Six Sigma concepts, and Safety.
  • Experience with automated maintenance software programs, and exceptional PC skills including MS Excel and Word.
  • Must have the ability to work independently with limited direction while managing competing deadlines & multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to all aspects of MSHA/OSHA and maintenance best practices.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, and P&ID drawings.
  • Accurate data entry, and ability to type on a computer at a functional pace to meet the demands of the job.
  • Highly developed planning, prioritizing, and organizational skills.
  • Good communication skills in writing, verbally, and in a variety of situations. Clearly demonstrates the ability to relate to others in a positive and engaging manner at all times.
  • Strong work ethic of integrity and honesty striving for excellence in all activities employing accompanying communication.
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of mechanical or electrical industrial maintenance experience required, with two years of experience in maintenance planning preferred.
  • Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) is a desirable credential for this role, but is not required.
  • Valid driver license required.
