Join the Commonwealth of Kentucky as a CVE Inspector I and play a critical role in ensuring highway safety. As a member of the Kentucky State Police, you will be responsible for inspecting commercial vehicles to determine compliance with federal and state regulations. Your work will involve crawling under vehicles to physically inspect for safety defects and violations, checking for cargo security, and issuing citations when necessary. You will also be responsible for inspecting for hazardous materials cargo and determining if any violations of hazardous material regulations exist. In addition, you will check for size and weight compliance and issue citations when appropriate. Your attention to detail and customer service skills will be essential in this role. • Learns statutes, regulations, policies, and procedures related to commercial vehicle enforcement.
• Inspects driver/vehicles for compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.
• Inspects for hazardous materials cargo and determines if any violations of hazardous material regulations exist.
• Checks for size/weight compliance and issues citations when appropriate.
• Completes all necessary paperwork.
• Communicates issues appropriately through the chain of command.
• Maintains uniform and equipment in accordance with policy.

**Minimum Requirements:**
• EDUCATION: High school graduate.
• EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE
• SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Must be 21 years of age. Must successfully pass an extensive background investigation prior to employment.
• Within 12 months of employment in this job classification must successfully pass part A and part B of the North American Standard Inspections test as required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
**Working Conditions:**
Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at weigh facilities conducting commercial vehicle inspections.
**Probationary Period:**
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
