Job Summary

The Lab Assistant plays a critical role in the Blood Bank Department, responsible for receiving and processing incoming specimens, ensuring they are handled safely and prepared for technical assay. This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive and process incoming specimens, ensuring they are handled safely and prepared for technical assay.
  • Ensure specimens are stored under proper conditions for optimal results.
  • Deliver prepared specimens to appropriate areas in a timely manner.
  • Perform pre-analytical duties associated with accessioning incoming specimens into the lab computer system and evaluating specimen identification and integrity.
  • Answer incoming phone calls to the lab, providing information on specimen collection, preservation, test orders, and status to other hospital staff members.
Requirements
  • Experience in phlebotomy and/or clinical lab preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Excellent customer service skills, basic computer skills, and ability to multitask required.
  • Intermediate computer knowledge: uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
